Blogmas #14 The Christmas Tag

What is your favourite Christmas film?
Elf! Definitely! Ever since the film came out, it’s been the one movie I really look forward to watching again. That and Home Alone, obviously!

Have you ever had a White Christmas?
Yes, but only once or twice when I was really little. I have vague memories of rushing outside in the snow, forgetting my gloves; and soon regretting it. I only made a snowman once and me and my brother pretty much used up all of the snow out front to build it.

Where do you usually spend your holiday?
In our house, Christmas lasts at least 3 days because we spend it visiting all of our family. Well, we actually start celebrating the Christmas period as soon as December hits! We kick off the celebrations properly on Christmas Eve with breakfast or lunch out, a nice walk where Joshua can run wild and then we go home for our Christmas Eve Box and a night in. Christmas Day is a mixture; we start off at our house for presents and a buffet breakfast, go for a long walk and then visit my Mum and then finish off at my partners Grandads house where we have dinner, more presents and games.

What is your favourite Christmas song?
Possibly New York Fairytale! Although, I like a lot of them. Christmas music was always on in our house during December and especially on Christmas morning. As soon as we were all up the music channels went straight on and stayed like that for the entire day.

Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?
When I was growing up we were allowed just one small present each, that my Mum bought specially for Christmas Eve. When I was even younger, in the town where I used to live Santa would visit on his sleigh and hand you a present that your parents had given him. Now I’m older, I don’t have any presents on Christmas Eve but I make sure Joshua does. At the moment, his is usually a book.

Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?
Rudolph, Dancer, Prancer… and, that’s it! I suck!

What holiday traditions are you looking forward to most this year?
On the lead up to Christmas we spend every weekend doing something Christmassy. Whether it’s visiting Santa, Christmas markets or Christmas crafts, we make sure we fill each weekend with something fun-filled. I also look forward to our walks over the Christmas week.

Is your Christmas tree real or fake?
Fake. I’ve never had a real one, and I don’t really see the whole point. I’d rather not have to worry about buying a new one every year.

What is your all-time favourite holiday food/sweet treat?
Chocolate orange or gingerbread flavoured everything!

Be honest: do you like giving gifts or receiving gifts better?
I think most people who say receiving gifts are lying, aren’t they?! But I do love watching Joshua open his presents, I get just as much joy out of it as I do when I get presents for myself. I think as I’ve grown up a lot of that excitement has disappeared, just because a lot of things have changed with how my family ‘do’ Christmas now.

What is the best Christmas gift you’ve ever received?
I actually don’t have an answer to this! Growing up, I loved every one of the presents I got given so much that none actually stand out.

What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season?

I wouldn’t wanna be anywhere but home! But saying that, just give my home a lovely brick fireplace.

Are you a pro-present wrapper, or do you fail miserably?
I am pretty good at wrapping, to be honest. My Mum used to get me to do it for her so I’ve had a lot of practice.

Most memorable holiday moment?
It’s for all the wrong reasons, but as I mentioned above, my Mum used to give a present to Santa for him to deliver to me on Christmas Eve. I told my Mum I didn’t want it that year (I lied) but I knew she had done it anyway. So, I waited for him to arrive and had a sulk on for quite a while that she hadn’t listened to me and done it anyway. No idea why I lied about wanting it, typical kid I suppose!

What made you realize the truth about Santa?
I can’t remember believing in Santa nor finding out about him not existing! So it all must have been done very young.

Do you make New Year’s resolutions? Do you stick to them?
I never intend on making any and usually never do until January has already started. And, nope, I never stick to them! I’m that person.

What makes the holidays special for you?
Seeing all of our family over the course of a couple of days, including the ones I actually only see once a year; at Christmas.
