Now that the colder months are well and truly on their way, us parents are hunting for ways to keep our little ones occupied indoors. There are only so many times you get dig out the colouring book, tablet and play with the same toys! When I was gifted a brilliant Trunkaroo box, I knew it was going to be perfect for entertaining Joshua at home, to try something new and exciting. Anyone who knows me, knows that I’m a sucker for subscription boxes. But Trunkaroo is something like I’ve never seen before.
Not only is Trunkaroo amazing for craft activities, it also focuses on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths) and incorporating that into the child’s play. The subscription boxes include absolutely everything you need to keep your little ones happy, entertained and learning while they play for hours on end.
What Was in Our Box?
The morning that our Trunkaroo box arrived Joshua happened to be at preschool so I took a quick look inside to see what activities we were going to be enjoying over the next couple of days. That was the great thing about this box, it had so many activities within it that we managed to spread it over a whole week before we had used it up!
Our fun-fuelled afternoons had Joshua getting creative with water science. We had great fun playing around with transforming flowers – where we coloured in some paper flowers, attached stalks onto them and then placed them in water and watched how the colours changed over time.
We also made our own bunting with kid-friendly dyes (which was actually the drink Kool-Aid), colour chromatography and travelling colours – where we filled some cups with water, dropped in some dye tablets, stood some kitchen towel so that the cups connected and watched as the coloured water moved between the cups, changing the colours.
Joshua loved the additional Discoveroo magazine and all of the activities that were within – especially the blowing bubbles! It showed Joshua how to create bubbles with straws, bubble mixture and using the surface of a coffee table. He’s obsessed with bubbles so this was brilliant for him and something that he’s wanted to do almost every day!
How do you keep your little ones entertained during the colder and wetter months?
