When you’re trying to balance the equally difficult tasks of working and being a parent, it can often feel like you don’t have time for anything else. Whether that’s actually true or not, there’s one thing you most certainly don’t have time for getting sick. When you’re ill, it brings your whole life grinding to a halt, and that simply isn’t an option when you’ve got kids to take care of. Any parent will tell you what a miserable experience it is to try and keep kids happy, fed, and entertained while you’re feeling awful. With that in mind, here are a few ways to keep going when you’re sick, but you don’t have time to be.
Get the Relief You Need
Look, there’s no reason to be overly stoic about it. Just because you have to keep going doesn’t mean that you have to pretend that you’re totally fine. Sure, it’s all too common for people to insist that they’re not ill when they clearly are, but that’s not going to help anyone! The best thing to do is just admit that you’re feeling sick and get the help you need! Of course, that’s not going to do any good if you’re not getting the right relief.
Go to the Doctor Right Away
Going to the doctor is never a particularly pleasant experience. The surgeries smell weird and sitting in the waiting room is interminably dull. However, if you don’t go and see a professional, then there’s a good chance you’re just going to end up feeling worse and worse. There’s a good chance that you could end up getting the kind of help that can deal with your sickness right away if you go see a doctor straight away instead of trying to fight through it on your own.
Sometimes You Have to Throw in the Towel
Here’s the thing, sometimes, in order to get better, you just need to rest. If you’re still trying to run around as if you were feeling completely fine, then you’re going to end up running yourself into the ground. Whether you leave the kids with your partner, a friend, or a relative, sometimes the best thing you can do is just throw in the towel, admit defeat, and get into bed for a couple of days!
Of course, the best thing that you can do is to try and make sure that you don’t get sick in the first place. However, that’s often much easier said than done with kids around. Schools can often feel like germ factories, and it can seem as though they’re bringing back some new illness every single day! But keeping your home clean and being careful about avoiding germs is still the best idea for avoiding any illness.
